Team Colombia pedals its way through Giro d’ Italia

The 96th edition of Giro d’Italia features the return of a Colombian team, one that seeks history in one of the most important cycling events in the planet.

Team Colombia, supported by Brand Colombia, Coldeportes, and the Colombian Olympic Committee, is back on the roads of Italy with nine runners that will represent the country during 22 days of competition.

Team Colombia is a bet for Colombian cycling. The Giro d’Italia has been a stage for achievements by Colombians and happiness for the country; the 15 stages and 5 mountain prizes won by Colombian cyclists are proof of it.

The Colombian team for the Giro is formed by Wilson Marentes, Leonardo Duque, Jarlinson Pantano, Darwin Atapuma, Edwin Avila, Robinson Chalapud, Fabio Duarte, Dalivier Ospina and Carlos Julián Quintero. The coaching staff is Valerio Tebaldi, Oscar Pellicioli and Oliverio Rincón.

22 teams from different spots of the earth make their way to the event. In addition to the riders in Team Colombia, the country will be represented by José Serpa (Lampre), Carlos Betancur (AG2R), Miguel Rubiano (Androni-Giocatolli) and Cayetano Sarmiento (Cannondale). Sergio Henao and Rigoberto Urán —who was declared the best young rider of the Giro’s 2012 edition—, will both defend the colors of Team Sky.

The Giro d’Italia, a competition that lasts for 2,115 miles and is divided in 21 stages, got underway in Naples on May 4th and will end in Brescia on May 26th.
