Ten photos that will change the way you see Colombia

The country's most spectacular places as seen through the eyes of an experienced Colombian traveler and photographer.

For over 35 years, photographer Filiberto Pinzón has been touring the country with his lens to capture Colombia’s most incredible images. From the Amazon to La Guajira, traveling through Chocó and the country’s interior, Filiberto’s photos – which can now also be seen in the program “Fili’s Camera Roll”, broadcast by El Tiempo Televisión – has become a national benchmark for showing the country’s natural riches.

As part of the launch of his book, “Journeys through Colombia,” Filiberto chose 10 of his Colombian landscape photographs and told us the story behind each of them in his own words. Would you like to see them?

    Bahía Hondita (Guajira)

“This place is on the way to Punta Gallinas. You go through the desert, and it’s so hot, when you find it you think it’s a mirage. But it’s not, it’s an incredible oasis.”

    Fishing villages of Ciénaga (Magdalena):

“They were given this name because the houses are built over the water on mangrove trunks. It’s interesting because the children here will have a canoe before they have shoes. It’s beautiful.”

    Mompox

“Upon entering, the architecture is what impacts visitors. To get here, you have to go to Magangué and then take a ferry or a boat, which goes slowly, very slowly through the Magdalena river and then you come across these churches and these streets. You have to see it.”

    Amazon

“A special place: it’s magical to see the sunsets and the images of the jungle reflected on the river. The houses shown in the photo were painted by an artist who asked the residents which animal they liked best and then he drew them on the front.”

    Bojayá (Chocó)

“Despite the poverty, the children are immensely happy. Their eyes were shining with joy when I was going to take their photograph before they jumped into the river. They are the best reflection of the happiness of Colombians.”

Patio of the Foreign Ministry (Palacio de San Carlos – Bogota)

“Although it is now the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, years ago this colonial house, located in the center of Bogota, was the President’s official residence. The photo shows the patio in a blanket of flowers.”

    Nemocón (Cundinamarca)

“These mines are magical. The water forms a mirror that reflects the entire mine and accentuates the colors. Marvelous.”

    Jardín (Antioquia)

“This is one of the most beautiful towns in southeastern Antioquia because of its architecture, colors, and the friendliness of its people.”

The Cauca River through Santa Fe de Antioquia

“I took this photo from the side of the Puente de Occidente [Bridge of the West]. I waited for the sun to set to be able to see the silhouette of the mountains and to get this beautiful view”.
