´´`The Pacific Region hosts the most biodiversity and presents the highest annual rainfall density in the country. It is home to one of the rainforests with larger number of species per square kilometer in the world, and the Atrato River, one of the most voluminous of the planet. The humpback whales reach the Pacific region to procreate, and some sea turtles do it to spawn. In this region African palm, coconut palm and wax palm grow.

The Pacific Region holds jurisdiction over Gorgona Natural Park, Utría Natural Park and Malpelo Natural Park, even if the three are located in continental and oceanic islands. Malpelo Natural Park has been declared Heritage of Mankind by UNESCO, and is known for having both a marine ecosystem and a terrestrial one that allow scientific research of invertebrate mammals. In the island, around 300 fish species can be seen, such as the hammerhead shark.
