    James Rodríguez, the New Idol

Only at 22, and number 10 in the Colombian football team, James Rodriguez has already enchanted half of the world. It goes as far as winning the Golden boot at the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

It is often said that an image is worth a thousand words. But it is even better when you have a thousand images flooding television broadcasts and digital media; which not only amaze the whole world, but also bring togheter an entire country.

Such is the case of James Rodriguez’s goals and celebrations during the 2014 FIFA World Cup held in Brazil, among many other emotional images that will surely come ahead.

For instance, some will never forget the 4th of July in the Castelão Stadium when the best Brazilian players, David Luiz and Dany Alves, comforted the number 10 Colombian player after losing the quarter finals, asking the whole stadium to cheer for him as if he had been the winner that day.

Although James did not made it to the semi-finals, he was indeed declared the top scorer of the World Cup, winning the Golden Boot due to his immeasurable talent and his amazing goals. This recognition rose him to the level of great players such as Lionel Messi from Argentina, Arjen Robben from the Netherlands, and Thomas Müller from Germany.

But the best thing about James is not his game but his attitude. Even after being acknowledged by one of the greatest, Lionel Messi, he keeps on being the simple man who grew up in the small city of Ibagué with the dream of becoming a football player.

James Rodríguez is now part of one of Europe’s most important teams: Real Madrid, and he has just entered the list of the 10 most expensive transfers in the history of soccer. He is married to Daniela Ospina, Colombia’s goalkeeper sister, and is father of Salomé, whose name is tattooed on his right arm, the same one he kisses every time he makes a goal.

Thank you, James! Your goals, your dedication and humility are part of what makes Colombia the answer.
