Colombia knows how to celebrate. Boasting 18 national holidays per year, Colombia is among the countries with the most official holidays in the world—behind only Venezuela, and tied with India.

The majority of holidays in this predominantly Catholic country—12 of 18—are religious observances. Semana Santa, or Holy Week, is an especially important celebration in Colombia.

Other holidays celebrate important dates in Colombia’s history and independence. January and June have the most holidays, at three per month.
