W Radio, celebrating ten years on the air

Great personalities such as Bill Clinton, Quentin Tarantino, and Liza Minnelli have been interviewed at W Radio over the last decade.

W Radio is a Colombian radio station, affiliated to Caracol Radio, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary. This organization has gone through the country’s most vital moments and under the direction of Julio Sánchez Cristo has become a journalism authority in Latin America.

Created in 2003 as a replacement to musical radio station Caracol Estéreo, La W now has some 270.000 listeners and is considered the world’s 12th largest radio station, according to Wunder Radio.

La W is available in 22 Colombian cities and in countries like Panama, Spain, and the United States. It is known for covering the world’s most important events and for interviewing personalities such as Bill Clinton, Quentin Tarantino, Sting, Roger Waters, and Liza Minnelli. It received the Spanish Ondas Award to Best Ibero-American Program in 2012.

Fidel Cano, director of El Espectador, states that La W Radio “not only has an incredible opinion strength among its listeners, but also reaches people with power. If you want to reach those people, you have to speak at La W”. Additionally, he states “they influence opinions because they are the major interlocutor in the country”.

To celebrate its 10 years anniversary, the radio station along with Medellin’s City Council are organizing a concert performed by Beyoncé Knowles. Her presentation will take place on September 22nd at the regional stadium Atanasio Girardot, located in Antioquia’s capital.
